Color Palette Extractor - Extract Colors from Images
Extract color palettes from any image. Generate harmonious color schemes and identify the most prominent colors in your photos.
A Color Palette Extractor analyzes images and identifies the most prominent colors within them. Every image contains a unique color signature defined by the hues, saturations, and brightness levels of its pixels. Extracting these colors produces a palette that captures the visual essence of the image and can be used as the basis for design color schemes.
The extraction algorithm examines every pixel in the image and groups similar colors into clusters. The most significant clusters representing the largest areas of the image are selected as the palette colors. Each color in the palette is presented with its Hex code, RGB values, and the percentage of the image that color occupies.
Graphic designers use color palette extraction when creating branding materials inspired by photographs. A landscape photo might inspire an earthy natural color scheme for an outdoor brand. A fashion photograph might yield a sophisticated palette for a clothing line. Extracting colors directly from reference images ensures the palette authentically captures the desired mood.
Web designers extract color palettes from client logos and brand materials to build website color schemes. Using colors that already appear in the client's brand assets ensures consistency across all marketing materials. The extracted palette serves as the foundation for the website's color system including primary, secondary, and accent colors.
Interior designers extract palettes from fabric samples, paint swatches, and inspirational photos to develop room color schemes. The palette provides a coordinated set of colors that work together harmoniously because they naturally appeared together in the source image.
The number of colors in the extracted palette is configurable from three to twenty colors. Smaller palettes with five to seven colors are suitable for branding and web design where a limited color system is desirable. Larger palettes with more colors provide a comprehensive view of the image's color distribution.
Color harmony analysis evaluates the extracted palette against color theory principles. The analysis identifies which color relationships are present such as complementary, analogous, triadic, and monochromatic relationships. This analysis helps designers understand why the palette works together and how to expand or modify it while maintaining harmony.
Each extracted color is shown as a swatch with its Hex code, RGB values, and HSL values. Clicking any swatch copies the color code to the clipboard in the preferred format. The complete palette can be exported as a CSS variable list, a Tailwind CSS configuration, or a simple color code list.

Palette Tips
- Use high-resolution images for better extraction: Higher resolution images provide more color data for accurate palette extraction. Low-resolution images may miss subtle colors.
- Limit palette size for brand work: Brand color systems typically use 3-7 colors. Larger palettes are useful for analysis but too many colors dilute brand identity.
- Extract from representative images: The palette reflects the dominant colors of the source image. Choose images that contain the color mood you want to capture.
